Paddle, Float, and Explore the Wading River
The Wading River is the heart of the campground. Calm, scenic, and lined with sandy banks, it’s perfect for a few hours on the water. Rent a canoe or kayak from our on-site outfitters or bring your own and head out for a gentle paddle through the Pine Barrens. Prefer to relax? Grab a tube and drift downstream, taking in the quiet and the views.

The Jersey Devil Train & Campground Traditions
One of the most beloved traditions at Wading Pines is our Jersey Devil-inspired train ride. Climb aboard for a scenic spin through the campground that’s fun for kids and nostalgic for adults. It’s a simple, silly, can’t-miss part of the Wading Pines experience.

When the Weather Doesn’t Cooperate
Even when the rain moves in, there are still ways to enjoy your time at Wading Pines. Guests often head to the recreation hall, game room, or covered areas to play cards, work on puzzles, or enjoy board games together. Craft sessions and indoor activities are sometimes added on rainy weekends to keep the fun going.

Activities & River FAQs
Do I need to sign up in advance for activities?
Most activities such as crafts, games, and live entertainment are open to all guests staying at the park and do not require advance sign-up. Some events — like special meals, tournaments, or limited-space crafts — may have a sign-up sheet posted at the office or activity board.
Are all activities included with my stay?
Many activities (such as crafts, games, and certain events) are included, while some may have a small fee to help cover supplies or special costs. Canoe, kayak, and tube rentals are always a separate charge. Check the current activity schedule or ask at the office for details.
Can anyone use the Wading River?
The Wading River is managed by the State of New Jersey, and all guests must follow posted rules and safety guidelines. River access, levels, and conditions can change based on weather and management decisions by the State Park Service.
